“Be at war with your vices, at peace with your neighbors, and let every new year find you a better man.” Benjamin Franklin
Unrealistic goals/resolutions can leave you feeling depleted by mid-January. I have found simple things really work.
Wake up sexy as hell. I have a coffee cup to remind me how easy this one is. Looking in the mirror: “Wow, you are pretty.” Then my coffee mug reminds me, ‘yes, I am.’
Record of what worked last year.
What worked for you? What do you feel proud of, happy about? What are you truly grateful for that occurred in the past year? For me, writing it down helps me to look right at it. Of course, I am a writer, and I find that writing gives me a voice I lacked. I love personal history; it can serve as the best guidepost to move forward with intention. It is your map, it is your journey.
Clear the clutter. 5 and 5 has worked great for me. The idea is to get rid of 5 things a day for a month. Ha! As the kids are saying 6/7, I am saying 5/5. Honestly, I would clear out much more than 5 and take a break for a day or two. Once I started this process, I felt better as my world was just what it is supposed to be. Hanging onto unnecessary items will tie you down and anchor you. I have freed myself of clothes, books, paintings I’ll never hang, old makeup (trash), and just things I have toted around for years. I no longer need them, so it is my responsibility to rehome or dispose of them.
I like to get all my health in order at the beginning of the year. I will likely inherit longevity and need to tend to my health, and I do. I am blessed to have good health care. I love the smartphone that counts my steps and tracks how excellent a walker I am. Yes, positive reinforcement works well with me.
If I had to choose a ‘theme’ this year, it would be ‘bucket-list’. I checked off several items on my bucket list this past year, a safari in Africa that was a lifetime experience, but there are more to come. More goals to reach. More books to write. There is no stopping now.
After all, if you wake up sexy, rattling through your gratitude list, the world is at your feet.
Know it, believe it, choose it, see it, live it. Go ahead and live your life as big or as quiet as you would like.
The top of my list? Read more, write more, read more, you see where this is going.
Happy New Year!
My Mantra: “Other than reflection, one day looks like the next, not perfect, but it is perfectly mine!”
