“I’m glad I am a woman who once danced naked in the Mediterranean Sea at midnight.” Mercedes McCambridge
What a treat! The Olympic Spa in Los Angeles. The ninety-mile freeway filled drive proves to be different after spa day than before, but that is a different blog.
This Korean spa you valet park and that is the last time you will see a man. Women only and you can feel it the moment you step in. After you check in you remove your shoes to a locker. Then barefoot your way to the next locker where you remove everything. As you peel off your clothes and go about naked it is amazing how you don’t see other people as nude.
There is no comparison freeing yourself from body issues happens quickly.
Confidence in accepting your body at your age, with your body type, and your weight that you are. Shedding images of society perfection and embracing that for those hours you are in the spa. I felt as if we were all there in a communal moment. That moment breads an environment to just unwind completely unplugging from anything and everything.
After my friend and I arrived and showered we soaked in the mug’s wart hot pool. That is to release toxins, this magical pool is noted to provide great health benefits. It is like being in a bath of tea. Next plunge was the cold pool, that was gnarly at first and then completely invigorating you did not feel the cold after seconds. We enjoyed the sauna rooms and the oxygen room.
Putting on our robe feeling so very dressed as we barefooted our way to a Korean lunch prepared and served by women. Finishing five minutes until our scheduled Pure Bliss treatment. It was pure bliss, and I am thrilled my Oregon girlfriend enjoyed our Los Angles day of women.
The assured calm empowerment of women vibrated through our being. I breathed deeper than I had in a long while. Reminding myself how I take care of myself directly reflects how I can take care of others. Self-care is not underrated and us girls have a tendency to put others needs ahead of our own. As a single mom for a couple of decades I understood that in spades. Now that my children are raised, I want to realign some of those misunderstood agreements I had with myself.
I remind myself to feel as free as I did when I walked about naked. To hold onto that freedom and bring it into my day. To truly free myself from comparison and to have great style in just being real, raw, and stripped down.
My Mantra: “Shedding clothes is as important as shedding comparison”
